This blog is going to show you some color choices of stone. There is no best color, but there are some rules of thumb. First stay with the natural colors of stone. Don’t get the fancy blues or pink colors or other designer colors that some vendors may offer because they will work with your furniture. We suggest one of two palates of either the warmer earth tone colors or the cooler colors that bring out the grey tones.
Color Intensity is an important factor and so is the light in the room. I define color intensity as the amount of stones that have color in relation to the stones that are the natural or buff color. We prefer making the stone fireplace more dramatic and therefore with more color. A ratio of about 70-75% color intensity and the balance being the natural color works very well. A room that is darker with either natural light or artificial light want to reverse the ratio so the room doesn’t get dark.
Picking the “Right Color”. With good guidance you should be able to pick a color palate that you feel comfortable. A nice blend of colors in the stones allows you to make decorating changes in your room with the fireplace and the stone will not become dated. When we visit with our clients, we bring our I Pad and show the color palates expanded over the fireplace, the near by walls, flooring and furniture.
