Customer Expectations
Customer was focused on a complete and thoughtful job that would reflect their traditional tastes and wanted help in coordinating the mix of stone along with the proper color to work with the rest of the house.
The fireplace is focal point from both the kitchen and the second floor. They were willing to wait the typical 4-6 weeks for our crew to arrive for installation.
Project Details
The customer found us through our website and completed one of our online estimate forms and submitted pictures. North Star Stone then prepared a preliminary estimate and followed up with a call.
A Saturday morning appointment was set at our showroom to select the stone shape, color, mantel and hearthstones. We ask the customer to bring in samples of paint color, floor and surrounding materials whenever possible to help work with the color selection.
From the time the customer met us to the the time of the stone was installed was approximately 6 weeks.
Our Process
Stone veneer style/color used & any necessary preparations that were done prior to installation. The client selected cobblestone in the color of Grayslake and the installation was done with a mortar joint. Our non-tinted coordinating hearthstones were used instead of a solid piece of limestone.
The mantel is a 60” long distressed cherry beam mantel. Additionally the client ordered their own fireplace doors and the masonry crew installed the doors as part of the project.
We take great effort in trying to minimize the dust as shown by the pictures with protecting the floors to the fireplace, adding zip-walls and cutting the stone outside. There will always be dust with any fireplace project when we are done, but we work hard to minimize the mess.
Installation
The total time for the installation was three days. The thin brick and fireplace surround needed to be removed and the wall needed wire mesh and a skim coat of mortar which added about an additional day to the project.
Follow Up with Client
We met with the client to take pictures and they were thrilled with the new fireplace and was impressed with the level of service from the showroom visit to the skill of the masons
